The Power of Belief
Growing up, I don’t recall anyone telling me I could change the world. However, the thought that I could make a difference blossomed in my early twenties. Yep, I’m one of those people who believes that “one man can change the world,” and that one man is me! Don’t mistake me for someone who has it all figured out. I’m just a guy who believes in doing my part by serving others around the globe through the various skills I’ve developed. This belief is the foundation of my career in international development.

Aiming for More Than Money
I can’t say that “all I wanted was a hundred million dollars💵 and a bad chick.” Instead, I aimed to make a good living that could support my family while doing international work. Fortunately, I’m married to an amazing woman! Now, I find myself at the end of a long day, “staring up at the ceiling trying to connect the dots” in this new phase of my life as a Fractional CFO and Principal Consultant.

Learning and Adapting
With all the drive in the world🌎, I’m still learning new ways of doing business. I’ve switched roles; I used to be the one being pitched to, and now I’m the one doing the pitching! I lead collaborations, identify synergies, and keep the conversation steady. I wear multiple hats throughout the day, and since I’m already bald, I don’t have to worry about my hair thinning. No cap🧢!

Finding Strength in Support
When I’m running low on energy, “I close my eyes, think about it, dream about it, and tell my team about it,” including my therapist. I constantly remind myself that “success is on the way; I feel it in the distance.” I know that progressive preparation leads to powerful performances. When that one big opportunity arises, I won’t miss it⛹🏽. I wake up every day feeling like I’m on a mission!

The Importance of a Support System
I’d be crazy to say I’m learning to make it on my own. My support system is the fuel I need on days when I’m critical of myself. They hype me up and help me believe I can change the world. During my frequent check-ins, they hold me accountable. My grandma always told me, 🗣️ "Get your education, baby; nobody can ever take that away from you.” I took that to heart! Now, I’m in the trenches, working to complete my doctorate🎓 while establishing myself in this new phase of my career. But like one of the famous songs of MS Mass Choir, I’m Not Tired Yet!
Lessons from Family
My family taught me how to love💓, respect others🤝, and enjoy life😎! Although my parents and grandparents are no longer physically present, I’m thankful for their guidance. They’ve been my angels😇 in disguise all this time. I can almost hear them rapping along to Big Sean’s lyrics. I still believe “one man can change the world.” Why not me?
The Call to Action
The lyrics referenced and this blog post were inspired by Big Sean's "One Man Can Change the World" (ft. K. West & J. Legend). You too can change the world; we just need to do our part together! ✌🏽
